When lonely widow Kitty Merriweather moves to Derbyshire’s Hope Valley, she joins the Silver Rose online dating site because it offers a safe place for the over sixties to find romance.

There, she meets the enigmatic Harvey, a scientist working on a conservation project in Bali who promises her “hot days and stormy nights.”

Love blooms quickly but Kitty breaks all the rules laid down by the agency, putting herself at risk. When little things don’t add up she dismisses them as being unimportant. Nothing matters more than her plans for them to live happily ever after.

When she confides in her new friend, Edna Reid, octogenarian and former café owner, Kitty gets angry at Edna’s implication she is likely the victim of a scam. The more Edna hears about Harvey, the more she is convinced he’s only interested in Kitty for her money.

Using her knowledge of computers Edna finally uncovers the truth, but where does black magic and murder fit into this intriguing cosy mystery?

A Nice, Gentle Read!

A nice, gentle mystery set in a village full of gossips – aren’t they all?

When her husband dies suddenly, Kitty Merryweather moves to Lavender Lodge in Derbyshire’s Hope Valley. Desperately lonely, she joins an online dating agency where she meets Harvey who sounds like the answer to her prayers. However, Kitty doesn’t follow the rules and soon begins to doubt their ‘relationship’, confiding in local retiree Edna Reid, former cafe owner but doesn’t like it when Edna thinks she’s been scammed. Edna may be in her eighties, but she’s internet savvy and continues to investigate. However that’s not the only strange thing going on in Hope . . .

For a village with supposedly not much going on, there’s actually a fair bit happening in Hope. Edna is a very likeable, and extremely observant, and I quickly warmed to her. The rest of the characters are, for the most part, interesting and entertaining. This is a very pleasant read, well written and a good warning to anyone to beware of internet scams. Good for lovers of cosies and one I’m happy to give 3.5 stars.
