I’ll kill yours, if you kill mine.
Maddie’s life has come crashing down around her. Her husband has left her and moved on with a new woman and baby. No longer can she run from the past that’s been haunting her. The past has destroyed her future.
In a new flat, trying to start a new life, Maddie meets Jade and her young son, Ben. All too swiftly Maddie finds the dark thoughts whirring through her brain. But Jade’s different, she loves Ben, doesn’t she?
As the two women begin to open up about their exes over a few glasses of wine, Jade conjures a plan, a pact. She’ll kill Maddie’s if Maddie kills hers. Laughing it off, Maddie returns to her normal life.
But what if it wasn’t a joke at all…
Skilfully Crafted – a Brilliant Read!
Brilliant read! Pulled me in hook, line and sinker and then … WOW!
When we first meet Maddie, she’s moving into her new home with help from Greg – her husband. Only he isn’t moving in with her; oh no, he’s moved on from Maddie. So she faces a lonely future, living all by herself. So when her upstairs neighbour, Jade, reaches out the hand of friendship Maddie grasps it firmly. Jade is in a similar situation being a single parent to her young son, Ben. As they swap stories of their past lives over a few glasses of wine, Jade suggest that they can help each other out – by killing the other’s ex. Maddie’s sober self shrugs off the idea – but what if Jade won’t let it go?
This is a thrilling and very unexpected read. Skilfully written, it’s a very seductive story pulling the reader into Maddie’s life and, by association, Jade and Ben’s lives too. I had very uncharitable thoughts about both of them but as the book progressed I got rather fond of them and their struggles to cope with the hand life had dealt them. I was fully invested in this story but could never have predicted where it was heading! What a tale – gripping, exciting and so very satisfying at the very end. Highly recommended and worth every one of the five sparkling stars I’m so very happy to give it.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley and to Vicky Joss for my spot on this tour; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.
