Meet Captain Jake Reynolds – pilot, adventurer, art thief, spy.

In the opening weeks of World War One, and as a member of the newly formed British Royal Flying Corps, Captain Jake Reynolds is shipped off to Belgium.

Roped in by his squadron commander to prove the innocence of a young lieutenant accused of murder, Jake also wants to steal a 14th Century Jan van Eck painting.

The problem is both the evidence and the painting are behind enemy lines.

How do you prove a man’s innocence and steal a masterpiece while an entire German army is breathing down your neck?

Highly Entertaining!    Stars 4

I’ve never really read any rollicking ‘boys adventure’ type stories, but I imagine this is exactly what they’re like!

Captain Jake Reynolds, an American, is flying in WWI as part of the British army. However, Jake has hidden talents and flying is not his only skill and just because he’s fighting in a war doesn’t mean to say he won’t grab an opportunity when it presents itself . . .

This is an exciting, unpredictable read full of action and adventure. Things move quickly so the reader really needs their wits about them. There’s more to Captain Reynolds than meets the eye: never underestimate him! With a mystery, fighting involving British, French and German armies and a certain swagger this American seems to have off pat, this is highly entertaining and, despite the setting, lots of fun! Certainly an engrossing read which I have enjoyed very much, and am very happy to give four sparkly stars!

My thanks to the publisher for my copy received via Henry Roi PR. As always, all opinions are completely my own and entirely honest.

Yes, I am B.R. Stateham. Yes, I am as old as I look. Sixty-six years old and counting. But don’t let my chronological age fool you. There’s still that boy of fourteen grinning and planning mischief inside me. Still wanting to write ‘the perfect’ hardboiled/noir story. Still dreaming up dark fantasy sci/fi tales. Still dreaming . . . period. So let’s dream together, shall we?

  1. Thank you so much for the wonderful review. If I can captivate the interest of a reader who usually does not read this kind of novel, I believe I must have done my job as a writer.
