After a frosty welcome, things soon heat up at Wynter House.
Neva Grey is looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas with her family in the cosy cottage they’ve rented in the picture-postcard village of Wyntersleap. Nestled between rolling hills and a gently burbling river, it’s going to be idyllic.
Except it’s not. Torrential rain causes the river to burst its banks and the quaint little village isn’t quite so cosy with water lapping at the doors. Add to that a power cut and a sudden blizzard and Christmas is looking bleak … until gorgeous Adam Wynter invites them all to Wynter House.
Although not everyone is happy to share the ancestral home. Adam’s elder brother, Rafe is less than pleased. Their grandmother, Olivia extends a grudging welcome. And for Carruthers, the oddly arrogant butler, unexpected guests are a Christmas surprise he could do without. Especially one as troublesome as Neva’s eight-year-old niece.
But something’s not quite right at Wynter House. What is Rafe intent on hiding behind the locked doors of the old barn? And what really happened to his first wife?
It’s a good thing Neva has a sense of humour. She’s going to need it this Christmas at Wynter House.
This is book one in the Wyntersleap series but it can be read as a standalone. The Wyntersleap series is interlinked with the Merriment Bay series and several characters appear in both series.
A Superb Read!
I always enjoy Emily Harvale’s books; I get the feeling that, as this series crosses over with another, these novels are going to be something special!
Neva is looking forward to spending Christmas with her family; this year her parents have rented a cottage in a picturesque village where both their daughters along with son-in-law and granddaughter will join them for the festive season. Just as they settle in, things begin to go awry when the rain doesn’t stop and the nearby river begins to flood the area. With their way home impassable, the owners of the cottage take all the villagers to stay at their stately home – which is a world away from what the Grey family are used to. Renting someone a cottage and living under the same roof are two entirely different scenarios, and it’s not all plain sailing . . .
I adored everything about this one – it has so much going for it! A whole host of wonderful characters, each with their own foibles make for a very interesting and entertaining tale. Knowing that there are more to follow (coming here – watch this space) increased my enjoyment immensely. I do love a fab series! With a delicious hint of romance to come and terrific family dynamics, the icing on the cake is the exploits of Sasha, Neva’s niece who is a trial to her parents – to say the least! Old beyond her years, Sasha has a unique outlook on life which kept me giggling and laughing all the way through. A truly superb read, and I cannot tell you how much I’m looking forward to more about Wyntersleap and Merriment Bay! I have no hesitation at all in recommending this one, and happily award it all five sparkly stars!
My thanks to the publisher for my copy of this novel, and to Rachel’s Random Resources for my place in this Blog Tour; all opinions are completely my own.
