Nurse, Lizzi Yates, is assigned to provide end-of-life care to Charlie Maidley, one of Britain’s footballing legends, on the condition she keeps his identity a secret.
Unbeknownst to Lizzi, Charlie’s doctors have agreed to allow his sister, Miriam, to take him home to die on the strict understanding he remains in an induced coma, due to his history of assaulting women—a side effect of his brain tumour.
Miriam goes away on business, leaving Lizzi in charge, but a mishap with Charlie’s medication has Lizzi questioning why he is spending his final days comatose. Deciding he is being sedated without just cause, she makes the call to wake him up. However, a string of events and the discovery of a girl’s body at the bottom of the garden lead her to wonder if she’s made the right decision.
Who is the killer?
Could Lizzi be his next victim?
A Rather Awesome Read!
My best friend raves about this author’s books; to my shame I’ve never read Netta Newbound’s work before but now that I have I’m wondering how I let her novels slip through my fingers!
Nurse Lizzi takes on the job of private nurse to Charlie, currently living with his sister. Lizzi is completely unaware that her patient is kept sedated due to having a history of abusing women due to his brain tumour and when he regains consciousness accidentally and appears to be fine, she reduces his medication allowing him be awake on a more permanent basis. Then a woman’s body is found at the bottom of the garden and Lizzi is worried about whether she has done the right thing – or not?
Such an easy read, due to the skilled writing and clever plotting, I just raced through this one. It’s a very hard book to put down! It’s beautifully structured, drawing the reader into the story and I felt an affinity with the characters very quickly. There is always something going on, questions popping up and the answers following. A rather awesome read, and one which has added me as a firm fan of this author’s work. I’m delighted to have another on my tbr, looking forward to reading it already! There is no way I worked out what would happen in the end; in all honesty the ongoing events consumed me to a level where thinking about it never even crossed my mind. A spectacular novel, and as such fully worthy of five sparkling stars!
My thanks to Book On The Bright Side, both for my copy via Junction Publishing and for including me on this Blog Tour. All stated opinions are both honest and entirely my own.
