THE HILARIOUS STORY OF A YOUNG BOY’S GROWING UP YEARS
Meet Dennis Bisskit, short; ginger-haired; kind-hearted; game for anything. Born in 1945 on the day the war ended; it should have been a good omen. Instead it’s been one disaster after another. Luckily fate normally steps in to save the day.
Gasp at the great holiday camp knobbly-knees scandal of 1955!
Be amazed as Dennis attempts to win back the world mile record for queen and country!
Discover Fosdyke’s department store and the all-powerful Mrs Ricketts!
Shed a tear as Dennis visits the battlefields of France with his granddad.
And meet the memorable Colour Sergeant Plunkett who teaches Dennis everything he needs to know about the army and finally makes a young man of him.
A Pure Giggle-Fest!!
What a fabulous, fun read! Appealing for all to read and a pure giggle-fest!
Dennis Bissket was born on the day WWII ended and he is very much a product of that time. As we head into the swinging sixties, Dennis is as far removed from the image of that new-fangled word ‘teenager’ as it is possible to be. As he lurches from crisis to crisis – being not so much accident prone as a walking catastrophe – tears of laughter ran down my face. This is a book which is almost impossible to put down. Funny, entertaining and downright daft at times, Dennis is strangely inspiring. There is such an honesty to his life, this is a very appealing novel and one which my other half is already interested in having heard me laugh out loud non-stop whilst I’ve been reading.
Dennis is a fine young man but I suspect that’s more by accident than design. His family and friends are wonderfully created characters, but Dennis himself is the icing on the cake. I really can’t recommend this novel highly enough – it is pure unadulterated fun and suitable for all and any members of the family. Young and old alike will chuckle along.
My sincere thanks to author Stephen Ainley for bringing my attention to his novel and providing my copy. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
